Dear Birthfamily,
Thank you for taking the time to read and learn about our family. While we will never fully understand the emotions you are going through, we admire you for considering open adoption. We pray that God will give you the wisdom and strength to make the best decision for your child and you.
John and Jennifer met 14 years ago in our high school Agriscience class. John was a senior and Jennifer was a sophomore. December 30, 1995 was our beautiful wedding day which still seems like yesterday. When we were married, Jennifer’s parents gave us 5 acres as a wedding present. Our land is located in a small rural community 20 minutes from Bryan, Texas. This is where we built our home. Surrounding us is 160 acres of additional family land that has been in Jennifer’s family for 4 generations. Our fur family consists of Abby the dog, Lexi the inside cat, Tigger the outside cat, Patches and Moose the horses, and a small herd of cows.
John - I am 32 years old and own a successful cabinet and trim company. Owning my own company gives me the flexibility to make time for family. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Agribusiness in 1997. I really enjoy the outdoors God created and anything associated with it. My Mom and Dad live nearby. My Dad is retired and is enjoying every moment working on the family ranch. My Mom works for the Bryan School District. I have two sisters Amy, 28, and Laura, 22.
Jennifer - I am 31 years old and work for the Texas Transportation Institute in their accounting office. I graduated from Texas A&M in 1999 with a degree in Management. I love the outdoors and having my hands in the dirt or simply just pulling weeds out of the flowerbeds. My favorite flowers are the antique roses that grow so well in this area. I also like to go antique shopping on the weekends in the surrounding small towns. My Mom and Dad live just ½ mile down the road. I have two sisters, Stacy, 34 and Amanda, 23. When a child is placed with us, I plan on taking a ten-week leave period and will continue to work afterwards. When I go back to work, they will attend daycare at our local Catholic Church. We have had a great experience with them and it is an awesome learning environment.
Justin-Is 4 years old and currently attends the pre-school at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. His favorite days are Chapel on Tuesdays and Church on Thursdays. He truly loves his Lord! He loves being outdoors and swinging on his playground. Justin also likes to ride his horse Moose. He loves to swim or anything that has to do with water. He also loves to pretend to be Superman or Spiderman at any moment. We adopted Justin when he was 3 days old through Buckner. He knows his adoption story and about his Birthfamily. So far we have only received limited response from his Birthfamily to our attempts at contact. Justin knows how much they love him and that they are a very important part of his life. Justin is ready to be a big brother and even tells us that he will feed the baby a bottle and change their dirty diapers!
We love spending quality time together and with our families. About once a month we go camping in our travel trailer to one of the State Parks. While we are there we enjoy each other’s company and attention. We also like to fish, hike, ride bicycles, swim and our most favorite trying to catch fireflies. Every Friday, we go over to Granny and Papa’s (Jennifer’s Parents) house to visit. Then every Sunday for lunch we go to Grandma and Grandpa’s, (Johns Parents) house to visit.
We are looking forward to adding to our family again through adoption. By choosing open adoption, we will be adding to our family in more ways than one, a child and their extended family. Should you choose our family, we will give your child lots of love and wonderful opportunities. We admire your courage and strength in this difficult decision. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
