Blue about Child Abuse

(BEAUMONT, Texas) — Buckner staff in Beaumont, clad in blue, took the message of child abuse prevention to the streets on April 2 by handing out information at busy city intersections. They wore blue to honor abuse victims, who are commemorated in April during Child Abuse Prevention Month and Crime Victims Rights Month.

In East Texas, Buckner Family Place, Buckner Foster Care, CPS, the Chamber of Commerce and child advocacy groups received a proclamation from Commissioner's Court. A Blue Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held on the courthouse steps, 'Cutting Out Child Abuse" in Angelina County.

On April 1 in Southeast Texas, Judge Larry Thorne and other local officials joined forces to kick-off the month with a declaration signing ceremony. The declaration stated that they "vow to work together to turn around the cycle of abuse and neglect in our community, because preventing child abuse and neglect is up to all of us."

Buckner in Southeast Texas is also collecting new stuffed toys and funds for emergency care for abused and neglected children during the month of April as part of its Bear the Burden campaign.

The Campaign aims to expose the plight of abused children, while placing a new stuffed toy in the arms of hurting children served by Buckner, Garth House, Girls Haven, Boy's Haven, Child Protective Services, Family Services Women & Children's Shelter and first responders.
