Social/Home study
Buckner completes a thorough screening and evaluation of prospective adoptive parents prior to approving them to adopt internationally. Your return of the completed application/home study materials is your admission into our international program and signifies to us your desire to proceed with our process. Parent education
Adoptive parenting is often referred to as “Parenting +Plus,” because adoptive parents have all the rights and responsibilities of other parents…plus a few more. Visit our Education section for more information.

Post Adoption Services
Some adoptive parents may feel the need to counsel with a Buckner social worker for help in talking with their child about adoption or for assistance in dealing with difficult issues in the child’s background. Buckner provides time limited counseling related to these and other adoption issues. Read more.

Cultural/Heritage events
As part of an ongoing effort to help you connect your child with his or her culture, we offer several cultural or heritage events throughout the year. These are great times to connect with other internationally adoptive families and provide your children with opportunities to engage with other children from their homeland.

Heritage Day
Buckner Heritage Day is held once a year for families to come together and focus  on the importance of the adopted child’s cultural heritage as a part of the adoptive family. Cultural activities, festivities, and education for the families are the highlight of the weekend, with the focus on strengthening the family and celebrating that the culture of the child’s birth place is a significant part of their family due to their adoption experience. All adoptive families are welcome!

Birth Land Tours
Buckner organizes teams of volunteers to travel on mission trips for specific projects, and families can consider this option as well. For a list of upcoming mission trips, visit www.itsyourmission.com or contact adoption@buckner.org for more information.
